Mesothelioma

MESOTHELIOMA

Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that develops the thin layer of tissue that covers many of the internal organs (known as mesothelium). The most common area affected is the lining of the lungs and chest wall. Signs and symptoms of mesothelioma may include shortness of breath due to fluid around the lung, swollen abdomen, chest wall pain, cough, feeling tired, and weight loss. These symptoms typically came in slowly

Asbestos exposure is the main cause of pleural (tissue that surrounds the lungs) when fibers are breathed in, they travel to the ends of small air passages and reach the pleura, where they can cause inflammation and scarring. This may damage cells’ DNA and cause changes that results in uncontrolled cell growth

Mesothelioma average life expectancy is 12-21 months. Approximately 40% of patients live past one (1) year.  9% of patients live longer than 5 years

Mesothelioma prognosis can be improved by receiving treatment as soon as possible. Malignant mesothelioma is extremely aggressive and has a long latency life, which means it usually remains undetected until the cancer has reached an advanced stage

Types of victims are mainly shipyard workers, construction workers but it is not limited to those alone and it has been proven that it can be affected to police, fire fighters, soldiers, air plane mechanics, auto mechanics, factory workers and list go on and on
