SUBMITTALS
Submittal Literature
One of big gap between US, Europe, Asia
In short submittals can be defined as specific product
specifications. Project specification is for the guideline for certain project
I looked at different product specifications of products sold in
Myanmar. There is no real decent product specification exists. Product
specification means product details dimensions, weight, rating, strength of
material, power, installation, operation, maintenance etc. It should be in the
form of drawing or document form with all these required details and facts. When
we choose the material/equipment for any job/project, we review product
specification in detail and match with job requirements to fit in as well as in
sync with other products in the same job. For example, you are using 4”
domestic water piping, you have to use 4” valves, 4” taps, 4” connectors, 4”
water hammer arrestors. Another simple example, if you use PVC for piping, you
use PVC all the way or for the whole job
Once you see the exact product you are looking for, you discuss
with your installer or foreman to get it approve and confirm. Because they will
be installing /implementing in the field. After office and field like the
product, you make the standard submittal package and submit to Owners
(of Projects, any other works etc). When authorities/owners
review and approve the product submittal package, now you can shop around get
the stuff in timely fashion for the job
Like mentioned above, I do not see submittal process,
international standard streamline specification process, specification
numbering system, efficient product specification literature here in Myanmar
for building, installation, operation, maintenance and commissioning and all. Almost all Foreign companies working in Myanmar don’t have decent ones either
Systematic installation in timely fashion/product quality
assurance/ infrastructure building integrity guarantee are some of the pros of
product (material/equipment) submittals
NOTE: This came from author's personnal experiences
