TheitPan Maung Wa (ICS)
Theitpan Maung Wa’s real name was U Sein Tin. He
was born in Mu Pon Nat Kyun Place, Mawlamyine.
In 1920, he passed matriculation exam with Myanmar
language distinction and Sanskrit language distinctions (honors)
He moved on to Rangoon College (Science School) to
learn further.
In 1924, he passed Rangoon College Myanmar Honors
Class with Tha Doe Aung Prize, Highest Prize for Sanskrit language
In 1927, he passed Myanmar Language Arts Honor’s
Class with first class scores
Myanmar Language Arts Honors Class was introduced
in 1925 by SayarGyi U Pe Maung Tin. The very first student to that class was
Theitpan Maung Wa. At that time, English language had great influence in
Myanmar among educated for high positions, and Myanmar language was way behind
in popularity. BCS, ICS office positions after school attracted many young
Myanmar educated. Ones who study Myanmar language was being looked down upon.
But Theitpan Maung Wa never flinched, and never
looked back
In one of his articles, he wrote “ I always wanted
Myanmar language honors due to my keen interest to learn and encourage, and
also it is one of my ambitions to study Myanmar language”
And he also believed in learning other different
languages, to study books in foreign languages and he also pursued ideas from
Overseas
